The louver on your aircond controls where cold air goes. When it's stuck — pointing at the ceiling, frozen in one position, or flopping around — the cold air goes everywhere except where you want it.
How Louvers Work
Your aircond has horizontal (up/down) and vertical (left/right) louvers. The horizontal louver is controlled by a small stepper motor connected to a plastic gear. When you press swing on your remote control, the PCB activates the motor to oscillate.
Problem #1: Stuck in One Position
Stripped gear (most common): The plastic gear connecting motor to louver wears out over time. Motor spins but louver doesn't move. Fix: replace the gear (RM20-50 part, RM80-150 with labour).
Motor failure: If the gear is fine but motor doesn't spin, the stepper motor is burned out. Fix: replace motor (RM50-100 + RM50-80 labour).
Problem #2: Swinging Erratically
Jerky, random movement instead of smooth oscillation usually indicates PCB signal issues — common after power surges during thunderstorm season. Try resetting at the breaker for 5 minutes. If it persists, see our guide on aircond PCB problems.
Problem #3: Falls Open When Off
The louver should close when the unit turns off. If it hangs open, the motor's holding torque is gone — motor or gear replacement needed.
Problem #4: Clicking/Grinding Noises
Partially stripped gear — teeth worn but not gone. Gets worse over time. Replace the gear before it fails completely.

1. Power reset: Breaker off 5 minutes, restart
2. Check for debris: Open front panel, look for obstructions
3. Clean mechanism: Brush dust from motor and gear area
4. Manual test: With unit off, try moving louver by hand. Free movement = electrical issue. Stiff = mechanical issue.
